Fan Develops Solution To Make Metal Gear Solid Playable On Modern PCs

by Kyle Hilliard on Jul 05, 2017 at 07:39 PM

Metal Gear Solid is a classic, but it is getting increasingly more difficult to play. Certain PlayStation 3s can play the original disc with backwards compatibility, and this version of the game can be played on PlayStation 3, PSP, and Vita (though the latter platform does require a bit of a workaround). The PC version of the game – arguably the best version of the game – however, has not been playable on modern PCs for some time. The game is not available on Steam or GOG. Thankfully, a motivated fan has come up with a way to make it compatible.

Reddit user oxide-NL has spent months working out the kinks to get the PC version of the game working on modern machines. If you download their software, you can make the run run in 1080p among a number of other improvements.

Fingers crossed that Sony will give this version of the game the same treatment it gave the PC version of Final Fantasy VII and bring it to PlayStation 4.

Our Take
I, like most, played the original PlayStation version of the game. This makes me want to track down the physical version of the PC game in order to try it out for the first time. I am always looking for an excuse to replay the original Metal Gear Solid.
