Sony Removes 'World's Fastest Platinum Trophy' Game From PSN

by Elise Favis on Jul 02, 2017 at 12:38 PM

Sony removed an indie puzzle game called ★★★★★ 1000 Top Rated from the PlayStation Store last week, which claimed to offer players the easiest and fastest way to obtain a platinum trophy.

EuroGamer reports that Sony pulled the game and asked the developer to rename it as well as remove any mention of its trophies. In the official trailer for the game below, it's advertised that you can obtain a platinum trophy as quickly as 20 minutes.

Priced at just $0.98, the game consists of tile puzzles that can be easily completed. EuroGamer suggests that it may have just been a "sly advertising ploy" for the company's Facebook page that sells PlayStation 4 themes.

Our Take
Games are rarely pulled from the PlayStation Store. Platinum trophies are normally difficult to obtain, and games such as these move away from the idea of challenge and accomplishment. It seems like Sony thought this game promoted a shortcut too blatantly, instead of offering players a substantial gaming experience. Furthermore, this title comes across like a thinly veiled advertisement for the developer's PS4 themes. How do you feel about trophy hunting? Do games that offer shortcuts like these take away the substance and reward of a platinum trophy when it becomes too easy? Let us know in the comments below.
