Atlus To Localize Three Anticipated JRPGs For 3DS

by Craig Taylor on Jun 07, 2017 at 11:48 AM

Japanese developer and publisher Atlus is bringing three acclaimed JRPGs to America on the Nintendo 3DS.

Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology, and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux will all come to 3DS within the next year.

Etrian Odyssey V is the fifth mainline game in the long-running Etrian Odyssey series. This entry centers around the player's quest to climb the mythical Yggdrasil Tree, where legend says they will have their greatest wish fulfilled. It is scheduled for release in Fall 2017.

Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is a port of the original Radiant Historia which came out on Nintendo DS in 2011 (and made our list of the Top 100 RPGs of All Time). This version includes additional gameplay and story content, as well as revamped visuals. Perfect Chronology is set for release in early 2018.

Finally, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux is another port, featuring new story content, additional endings, and a new dungeon. This entry in the Shin Megami Tensei series follows a global taskforce put together by the United Nations in order to uncover the mystery surrounding a demonic portal opening in Antarctica. Like Radiant Historia, Strange Journey Redux is also scheduled for an early 2018 release.

Our Take
This fresh injection of JPRGs shows the 3DS still has legs in the eyes of publishers after the Switch launch. Perhaps Atlas and other companies are still feeling out the Switch's popularity before fully committing to releasing new software on the platform.
