Prey released almost a month ago, and the team at Arkane has been updating the game to smooth out its rough spots. However, it appears that the latest patch (version 1.04) carries a major problem alongside the minor fixes for PlayStation 4 owners.

According to Digital Foundry's analysis, the new update introduces some severe issues with the framerate on both the original PS4 model and the PS4 Pro (which just received unique support with this patch). The added stuttering and tearing affects the gameplay on a moment to moment basis, which makes it harder to appreciate the small improvements that are also present in the update. You can read the full patch notes here.

Considering that this has the potential to make your experience with Prey worse, you may want to avoid this update altogether until the issue is addressed.

Our Take
Hopefully the team at Arkane can find a fix for this soon. It's frustrating to update your game expecting fixes, only to find the new problems outweigh the benefits. That's not to say this kind of thing is easy; a game like Prey has lots of moving parts, and I'm sure changes to certain features can have unexpected consequences.
