What Role Will Snoke Have In The Last Jedi? Director Rian Johnson Weighs In

by Andrew Reiner on May 25, 2017 at 10:48 AM

Vanity Fair's behind-the-scenes cover story for Star Wars: The Last Jedi didn't reveal much about Supreme Leader Snoke, and there may be good reason for that – he may not get much screen time in the forthcoming film. Snoke is the leader of the First Order, and is skilled with the dark side of the Force, so much so that he lured Kylo Ren to his ranks.

David Kamp, the author of Vanity Fair's piece, took to Reddit to field Star Wars fans' questions in an AMA. Kamp didn't divulge many story-based secrets, but did reveal a bit of disappointing news pertaining to Snoke's role in The Last Jedi. During his on-the-set visits, Kamp said he asked director Rian Johnson "Who/what is [Snoke]? Rian was fairly up front in saying that Snoke is not a character he particularly gets into in TLJ."

That doesn't mean we won't get answers pertaining to his identity, but it doesn't sound like we'll see much of him. There's a good chance the Resistance won't come face to face with him until Episode IX.
