Luxury Pokémon Watch Will Set You Back $258,000

by Suriel Vazquez on May 21, 2017 at 03:05 PM

Last year, Swiss Watch maker Romain Jerome released a very expensive Pokémon watch. Featuring Pikachu on its face, made of high-quality parts, and limited to 20 sold, the watch retailed for $20,000. This year, RJ has decided to one-up itself.

Their new Pokémon-related tourbillon watch features several popular Pokémon (mostly from the first generation, but featuring a few from later ones), encased in a new shell. This one retails for $258,000. What makes the watch so valuable? According to RJ, "The dial, made entirely by hand, required hundreds of hours to create due to the numerous colours present which needed to be created and then hand-filled one by one." The oscillating weight on the back also has a little Pikachu on it, so that's at least another $5,000 (I assume).

That's a lot of cash, so I have to ask what the market is like for these kinds of high-end items. I'm sure someone is going to pick these up, but these high-value collectibles always make me think of what else one could buy for this much money.
