Paradox Interactive Signs BattleTech Publishing Deal With Harebrained Schemes

by Jeff Cork on May 12, 2017 at 12:53 PM

Paradox Interactive and Harebrained Schemes announced today that the companies have signed a publishing deal for the new BattleTech game. Harebrained Schemes raised more than $2.7 million in its Kickstarter effort for the game.

The game – the first turn-based entry in the series in more than two decades – is being led with a team of game veterans, including Jordan Weisman (creator of BattleTech and MechWarrior), Mitch Gitelman (MechCommander series producer), and Mike McCain (Shadowrun creative director). It's set for a 2017 launch on PC.

"We couldn’t miss the chance to work with Harebrained Schemes given how big of fans we are of their work on the Shadowrun Returns series," said Johan Sjöberg, chief product officer of Paradox Interactive. "The opportunity to reintroduce our strategy-minded players to the tactical roots of the BattleTech universe makes this partnership even sweeter. We are as excited about BattleTech as the early backers are, and we can’t wait to do our part to bring the game to market.”

Our Take
Getting a game to backers is challenging enough, but when you want to take a Kickstarted game to the masses, it's not a bad idea to enlist a little publishing-partner muscle. With any luck, this deal will help put BattleTech in front of as many eyeballs as possible.
