Turn-Based Tactics And Deck-Building Collide On PS4 In Pox Nora

by Jeff Marchiafava on May 10, 2017 at 06:05 PM

Pox Nora boasts an exciting mix of card collecting and tactics-based combat, and you can try it for free on PS4 later this month.

Pox Nora launched on PC back in 2006, and since then the turn-based strategy game has switched hands between several developers. Desert Owl Games is the latest proprietor, and is overseeing the launch on PlayStation 4, which hits May 23rd.

For the most part Pox Nora plays like a turn-based tactical strategy game, but with a deck-building twist – players collect rune cards, which consist of spells, equipment, champions (i.e. mobile units) and relics (stationary units). Given the game's long lifetime, PS4 players will have over 2,700 cards to collect, across 8 factions. Players start the game with a free deck, and can earn eight more by doing training missions. From there, gold and shards can be earned from matches to buy more packs or craft runes, respectively. Desert Owl Games says that there are thousands of single-player quests and campaigns, in addition to multiplayer battles that support cross-play with PC and Mac players. Here's a trailer to tide you over until the May release.

Our Take
I'm always up for checking out a new collectible-card game, and Pox Nora has me intrigued. There's certainly plenty of content already available; hopefully the gameplay lives up to the hype.
