Battlefield 1 Cracks 19 Million Players As EA Sets Net Sales Record In Fiscal 2017

by Daniel Tack on May 09, 2017 at 04:08 PM

EA has announced preliminary FY17 reports from its fourth fiscal quarter and year ending March 31, 2017. While there's plenty to dig through (and you can do so on their official site), some of the highlights are interesting.

The $3.034 billion in digital sales represented 61 percent of total net sales – up 20 percent year-over-year. Through the end of FY17, Battlefield 1 had more than 19 million players, a 50 percent increase over Battlefield 4 in the same time period. FIFA 17 also pushed past 21 million players, with more than 12 million having played "The Journey" story mode that debuted last year.

Mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes boasted a high gameplay time – 162 minutes a day on average. EA also estimates they were the top game publisher on both PS4 and Xbox One in the western world during FY17.

Our Take
The unrelenting road to digital continues, with striking statistics – more players are embracing digital downloads, digital DLC purchases, and additional digital products than ever. If anything is fascinating, it's that the mobile Star Wars title is keeping players engaged for hours on end. EA winning top publisher on major platforms comes as no surprise considering its array of titles and offerings.
