The Late Carrie Fisher To Appear In Star Wars: Episode 9, Brother Confirms

by Elise Favis on Apr 09, 2017 at 01:10 PM

Despite Carrie Fisher's passing late last year, the renowned actress will be seen in her role of Princess Leia in Star Wars: Episode IX, premiering in 2019, and her portrayal will not be through CGI.

Her brother, Todd Fisher, told New York Daily News that Disney will use "recent footage" of her in the upcoming film, and will not rely on computer generated technology. Todd Fisher, along with Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd, granted Disney rights in order to use said footage in the movie.

"She’s as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan — when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful," Todd Fisher tells New York Daily News. "I feel like that's what's happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue."

The extent of her role in the film's storyline is unknown. In December 2016, Carrie Fisher passed away following a heart attack on a transcontinental flight. She will also be appearing in the upcoming Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, since filming concluded in July 2016 before her death. No alterations are planned for her role despite her passing.
