Square Enix Announces Over One Million Shipments And Digital Sales For Nier: Automata

Square Enix's wording is a little difficult to parse, but it points to good news for the Nier franchise.

On its press site Square Enix writes, "The worldwide shipment and digital sales of the critically acclaimed action-RPG, Nier: Automata have exceeded one million." How those numbers break down – how many of those one million games are digital versus physical unsold shipped copies, etc. – is unclear, but for a game thought to be destined for cult classic status, to be able to claim one-million at any capacity is good news.

Our Take
I like the story the first Nier told, and am eager to start the sequel. I am glad to see the game escaping its niche qualifier and finding a larger audience. And after a handful of underwhelming titles (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, Star Fox Zero, and The Legend of Korra) it's good to see Platinum having what I think is safe to define as a hit.
