NPD: Game Sales Slump For The Month Of February

by Ben Reeves on Mar 16, 2017 at 02:16 PM

Ubisoft should be proud of its new IP For Honor, which led the sales charts for the month of February, despite having only 12 days on market before the end of the month. Team Ninja's Nioh didn't debut as strong, and barely squeezing into the top 10, at the number 9 spot. Meanwhile, Capcom's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard continues to sell well, taking the number two spot.

On the hardware front, total hardware spending for February declined by 30 percent when compared to February of last year. Console hardware accounted for 82 percent of the total decline in the market. The PlayStation 4 was the top-selling hardware system for the fifth month running. Meanwhile, the Nintendo 3DS system sales were up by 77 percent when compared to just last month, which is probably due to the release of the 3DS New Galaxy and the limited Pikachu Yellow models.

NPD Top 10 Games for February

  1. For Honor
  2. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
  3. Grand Theft Auto V
  4. NBA 2K17
  5. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
  6. Rainbow Six: Siege
  7. Madden NFL 17
  8. Battlefield 1
  9. Nioh
  10. Overwatch

Our Take
I had a decent time with For Honor, so I'm happy to see that it's near the top of the list. I'm also happy to see that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard still near the top of this list. We know that Horizon Zero Dawn has sold well, but since that game didn't release until the very end of the month, it's not surprising to see it absent from this list. Overall, February's sales slump isn't anything to worry about, as March is shaping up to be a killer month.
