Report: Video Streaming Services Such As Netflix And Hulu Will Arrive On Nintendo Switch "In Time"

Nintendo Switch released under a week ago, and it had one of the most successful Nintendo console launches to date. However, the new console also has some issues. One of these is that the system didn't launch with any video streaming apps. According to a recent interview in The Washington Post with Nintendo of America's president Reggie Fils-Aime, these streaming applications are on the horizon and Nintendo is in talks with companies like Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon.

What I would say is this: We built the Nintendo Switch to be a world-class gaming device, meaning we want you first and foremost to play games on the system and have an incredibly fun experience.

We’re talking to a range of companies about other services, companies like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon — things that will come in time. In our view, these are not differentiators. What differentiates us is the way you play with the Nintendo Switch and what you can play. And that will continue to be our focus into the future as we continue driving this platform.

It's unclear exactly when these streaming apps will be added to the console.

Our Take
In this day and age, not having any streaming applications seems like an oversight for a device like the Switch. Having multi-function electronics has become almost synonymous with both mobile and home consoles, and the Switch currently lags in that regard. While The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is fantastic and the Switch is primary a gaming console, it's clear that to ensure its continued success, pushing for these streaming services is a necessary move. It's good to hear that these additions are in the works, even though many of us would have liked to have seen such inclusions at launch.
