Watch How Rogue One Used A Vive Controller To Film CGI Shots

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had a number of beautifully-rendered CGI scenes which helped set the stage for its conflict and helped make its worlds feel more realistic. One way the team at ILM London (who helped developed those scenes) made them look so good: using a Vive controller strapped to an iPad.

In a recent BBC Click video, computer graphics supervisor Steve Ellis talks about how involved director Gareth Edwards "shot" these scenes by taking the makeshift contraption and moving it around a room. The video also delves into other ways the CGI was built, such as looking at real-world nuclear explosions to help make the ones in the film more authentic. You can watch the video below.
