Portal Writer Erik Wolpaw Leaves Valve

by Ben Reeves on Feb 20, 2017 at 11:42 AM

Erik Wolpaw joined Valve in 2004 and has since worked on games like Half-Life 2: Episode One, Portal 1 & 2, and Left 4 Dead, but the writer has recently left the company.

After rumors of his departure, Wolpaw confirmed, via a Facebook post, that he left Valve earlier this month. Back in 2010, we interviewed Wolpaw during a cover trip for Portal 2.

Wolpaw hasn't commented on where he's headed next, but he was already working with Double Fine on the release of Psychonauts 2, so it's possible that he'll focus more heavily on that project.

Our Take
I wish Wolpaw the best. Anyone who has played a Valve game over the last decade knows that Wolpaw is a funny guy, and I'm sure his voice will be sorely missed from the company.
