Valve Is Developing New VR Games

by Manon Hume on Feb 10, 2017 at 07:06 AM

Gabe Newell confirmed that Valve is currently developing three titles for the company's virtual reality headset, the Vive. Unlike Valve's short, experimental game The Lab, these new games are planned to be "full games."

Newell also stated that the company continues to work on its VR hardware not to make a profit, but to better shape the games they develop for the Vive. "[Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto] has had the ability to think about what the input devices and the design of systems should be like while he's trying to design games. Our sense is that that's going to allow us to actually build much better entertainment experiences for people," he explained.

Our Take
Virtual reality has lost much of its early momentum due to a lack of full titles available on the platform. Three VR-exclusive games that offer an in-depth experience along the lines of non-VR titles sounds promising for the Vive, but we'll have to wait and see whether it can get the genre back up to speed.
