No Skylanders For Consoles In 2017

by Javy Gwaltney on Feb 09, 2017 at 11:42 AM

During today's Activision Blizzard earnings call, the publisher revealed that there would not be a Skylanders game for console this year. There will be a mobile title, however, and a port of Imaginators will be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

A second season of Netflix's Skylanders show, Skylanders Academy, will be released in 2017. A third season has been ordered by Netflix.

The last Skylanders game was Skylanders Imaginators, which editor Andrew Reiner reviewed. He scored the game a 7 and said "Even with players receiving a wealth of rewards, Skylanders Imaginators feels somewhat uninspired. Kaos is off of his game, and Spyro and his cohorts aren’t needed as much. Where this series goes from here is anyone’s guess, but I hope Activision takes a more calculated risk in shaking the formula up. Giving players creative control isn’t enough of a spark to make this experience shine."

Our Take
Reception toward the series has been rather lukewarm in the past few years, so maybe a year off is just what Skylanders needs to right the ship.
