Former Rockstar Royalty Leslie Benzies Announces New Game Project

by Daniel Tack on Jan 26, 2017 at 07:15 AM

Former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies (Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption, GTA Online) is looking to Amazon Lumberyard for his next project, working title Everywhere.

“I am proud to have been part of past advancements in gaming,” says Benzies ,“but I am even more excited about what we have in store for the future. The working title of this new game is “EVERYWHERE” and the vision is long term, with the capacity to develop and grow forever. Our goal is to create a platfom where players can be entertained, and also entertain others while blurring the lines between reality, and a simulated world.”

In addition to Benzies, other high-caliber former-Rockstar talent is on the team, including Colin Entwistle and Matthew Smith.

Our Take
This is an interesting and fascinating move. Lumberyard is the place to be for integration between user/viewer and streaming efforts today, with Twitch integration and all kinds of bells and whistles of that nature. I'm really, really curious to see what this team's take on persistent worlds is going to be,  and how users will interact using Lumberyard's abilities. Some part of me yearns to go back to when games didn't involve all kinds of watching, spamming, and constant interaction between the game world, users, and players, but that's the future right? There's room for all kinds of games in this world and honestly with this team behind it, this looks like it could be something major for online gaming worlds.
