Guitar Hero Live Developer FreeStyle Games Acquired By Ubisoft

by Elise Favis on Jan 18, 2017 at 08:01 AM

FreeStyle Games, the UK development studio behind Activision's DJ Hero and Guitar Hero Live, has been acquired by Ubisoft. From now on, FreeStyle Games will be known as Ubisoft Leamington.

The studio was known for games such as the DJ Hero franchise, Guitar Hero Live, and Sing Party. FreeStyle Games was founded in 2002, and was later acquired by Activision in 2008. Ubisoft states that its newly acquired studio will work closely with its studio Ubisoft Reflections, along with its other international studios, to developer triple A games.

In the same blog announcing this acquisition, Ubisoft also mentions that Richard Blenkinsop has been given the role of managing director at the Reflections studio.

Our Take
It's difficult to say if there's much future for Guitar Hero Live, since this newly acquired Ubisoft studio is moving more towards developing triple A games.
