Nintendo Will Not Bring Miiverse, Streetpass To Switch

by Suriel Vazquez on Jan 14, 2017 at 06:31 AM

Add one more thing to what we know about the Nintendo Switch: It won't have Miiverse or Streetpass support.

Speaking with GamesBeat at yesterday's Switch event in New York, David Young, assistant manager of public relations for Nintendo of America, confirmed the Wii U and 3DS' most prominent social features (which let users post about their favorite games or earn coins by encountering other players) will not be crossing over to the new console. "I can answer that we're not going to be using Miiverse for Nintendo Switch," Young said.

Instead, the Switch will be using established social media networks to share images and video. It will also be using an app to manager friends lists, party and game invites, and parental controls.

Our Take
I can't imagine Miiverse will live on much longer if it's not on a new console, but Streetpass may have some life in it yet if Nintendo decides to continue supporting the 3DS. Some impressive things happened on the Miiverse, so it's sad to see it go, even if I didn't use it much.
