Splatoon 2 Launches On Nintendo Switch This Summer

by Brian Shea on Jan 12, 2017 at 04:45 PM

One of the most unexpected successes of the Wii U was the zany, fast-paced shooter featuring the squidlike Inklings, Splatoon. Nintendo has announced that Splatoon 2 is coming to Nintendo Switch.

Turf War, the prominent modes from the first Splatoon, returns. However, Splatoon 2 features new stages, new weapons, and brand new special weapon attacks.

One of the brand new weapons is called Splat-Duallies. Splat-Duallies are dual-wield pistols that can be fired simultaneously at opponents, or used to propel your inkling at high speeds.

Splatoon 2 can be played in several Switch configurations using the Joy-Con or Switch Pro Controller in either TV or handheld mode. Controls that previously used the touchscreen of the Wii U GamePad have been mapped to the controller's face buttons. To view the map, players press the "X" button on the Switch controller, and players can jump to the location of a teammate by pressing a button assigned to that teammate. In addition, the developers will return to their post-release plans from the original Splatoon, with new stage and weapon updates, as well as various in-game events.

Online play is available via the Switch's network play, but players can also play locally using multiple Switch systems with their built-in local multiplayer capabilities.

Splatoon 2 is set to launch on Nintendo Switch this summer.
