This year's Hi-Rez Expo kicked off today, and to celebrate a host of announcements were unveiled for the action MOBA.

First off, a new collectible card game called Smite Rivals was announced. It features popular characters from the Smite universe and will be free-to-play on PC and mobile. In Smite Rivals, you deploy units across a three-lane field to capture the enemy's tower.

"Not only will players collect and command an army of their favorite characters in a new and fun art style, but we’re excited to share that in-game progression will be continuous across all platforms. If you play on PC, you can pick up wherever you left off on your mobile device, and vice versa," says executive producer Brian Grayson.

If that looks up you alley, you can sign up for the closed beta, here.

Hi-Rez Studios also announced that the upcoming Smite Tactics, a turn-based, one-vs-one strategy game, enters closed beta today on PC. You can sign up for the beta the official site.

And just to top things off, a new goddess was revealed for the franchise in the newly unveiled Celtic Pantheon called The Morrigan. This mage can deal high area damage and take the form on any god on the battleground.

You can see both games and The Morrigan, Phantom Queen in action below.

Our Take
Looks like Smite is definitely expanding its reach with more offerings and different ways to engage with its universe. It will be interesting to see how it pays off. The addition of new characters is always fun to see how it will shake up the gameplay, and The Morrigan looks like a cool ranged character so far. Time will tell if she becomes a popular choice.
