Nintendo and Universal announced that construction for Super Nintendo World will be up by 2020. The attraction will not only feature themes and characters from Mario but also other "globally popular Nintendo characters."

Concept plans for the park include the usual entertainment for a theme park with plans for multi-level environments, shops, restaurants, and rides. Development costs for building the attraction are already looking to exceed 50 billion Yen. Ride designs will be heavily influenced by Shigeru Miyamoto and president of Universal Creative Mark Woodbury. These two may take some inspiration from Nintendo Land, the Wii U title that mimics a theme park.

This will be the first location of Super Nintendo World, with openings for Universal Orlando and Universal Hollywood coming later. This date was likely picked to coincide with the Tokyo Olympics happening later that same year.

Our Take
Nintendo's new theme park seems like it's shaping up nicely. While it was mildly exciting when it was just Mario characters, the thought of attractions based on Legend of Zelda or Metroid is especially enticing.
