Pokémon Data Miners Allegedly Discover A Treasure Trove Of Secrets In Pokémon Go

by Kevin Slackie on Dec 08, 2016 at 05:53 AM

The latest Pokémon Go update, v0.49.1, had a plethora of extra data that was recently uncovered by data miners from The Silph Road. While the updates that players could see were smaller additions, code for future updates was allegedly also sneaked in.

New programming code for Pokémon so far include sound files for 100 new monsters as well as a new section for "shinies." There seems to also be the ability to add costumes to your companions, with a special subsection under that titled "HOLIDAY" included. Avatar customization seems to be expanding with sponsored content, and Pokémon may also soon have genders. While we are unable to verify this information ourselves, we have previously reported on The Silph Road's data mining in Pokémon Go which turned out to be accurate. Since this is a datamine, there's no clear indication when these updates will be implemented.

Some quality of life improvements include changes to the Nearby feature along with the rest of the official patch notes. Click here to read the full details on The Silph Road's blog.

Fore more on Pokémon Go, read about a partnership between Niantic and Starbucks that has created 7,800 more PokéStops and gyms at several of the coffee shop chain's locations.

Our Take
These seem like updates Niantic needed to implement months ago, but it's great to see them taking steps in the right direction. It'll be interesting to see how they deal with winter causing less people to want to go outside for Pokémon Go. Also Pokémon Crystal is the best game in the entire series COME AT ME.
