Blake Jorgensen, Electronic Arts' CFO, said at the NASDAQ 35th Investor Program that gamers won't see another Battlefield "for a couple of years" while EA focuses on the next Star Wars Battlefront title.

Looking at Jorgensen's comments literally, if EA put out another Battlefield title in two years, it would more or less fit with the series' timeline of numbered releases. Battlefield 3 came out in 2011, BF 4 in 2013, and the recent BF 1 this year. In between Battlefield 4 and BF 1 there was the Visceral-developed Battlefield Hardline – proving that the franchise can put out titles on an every year basis. However, there has been no indication from EA that it is planning a non-numbered Battlefield title.

The company has announced a new Star Wars Battlefront title for 2017, and judging by recent comments, we can expect it in the fall of the coming year. Jorgensen didn't go into specifics about the game, but did say that it will include "more of the content from the new movies."

Our Take
It will be interesting to see how continued content for Battlefield 1 and even Battlefield 4 fills the gap until the next title in the franchise.
