Pokémon Sun & Moon Sets New 3DS Record For Shipping Over 10 Million Units

by Kimberley Wallace on Nov 18, 2016 at 05:53 AM

The popularity of the Pokémon series is still going strong, and the latest entry, Sun & Moon, has already broken a record. The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have shipped over 10 million units of Sun And Moon worldwide. To put that in perspective, that's 150 percent increase over Pokémon X & Y. Remember, units shipped doesn't necessarily equate sales. It just means these units have been sold to retailers. Still, it gives you a picture of what the expected demand is.

Today marks the launch of Pokémon Sun & Moon. To learn more about the game, you can read our review or watch our recent Test Chamber to see the game in action.

Our Take
That's a lot of Pokémon Sun & Moon copies out in the world, but it's best to remember that these numbers do not indicate actual sales from the public. Units shipped means what's been sold to retailers and can indicate demand, but doesn't give the full picture about success. Nonetheless, I'd be surprised if a Pokémon game doesn't hit the top of the sales charts.
