Nintendo's NES Classic Edition Website Includes Classic Game Manuals

by Suriel Vazquez on Nov 12, 2016 at 08:03 AM

The NES Classic edition is shaping up to be one of the biggest items of the 2016 Holiday season. It's a solid console, and has become incredibly hard to find, with many retailers (including Amazon) already sold out.

But even if you don't have one, Nintendo's new website for the NES Classic should give you something to do while you wait for the console to be back in stock. In the vein of the revival of its old tips hotline, Nintendo has launched a website cataloging the manuals for all 30 of the games included in the console.

Although the site offers modern electric manuals for every game written for use with the new NES, the older manuals are much more appealing to look at. Although "reference may be made to features that can't be used in this version of the game," (as the end of PDF document of every manual states), many of the manuals look like accurate recreations of the real deal.

Our Take
For some reason, I'm more interested in seeing these old manuals than the actual NES Classic Edition (heresy, I know). More than reliving my memories of playing video games as a kid, I like looking at promotional materials for retro games, since they provide a glimpse of a different gaming culture than the one we have now, in which manuals were a bigger part of the experience.
