Indie Darling Cuphead Delayed Into 2017

by Matt Bertz on Oct 11, 2016 at 11:08 AM

Originally scheduled to come out before the end of the year, Cuphead is going back in the cupboard until its creators believe it's ready for primetime. Today on its blog, Studio MDHR announced the delay into 2017.

Here is the full post:

Hey everyone, we wanted to finish our game 80 years after 1936 but it will now be 81. Throughout this year we discussed reducing the scope to make a 2016 release, but we made the difficult decision to delay the launch in order to ship with our vision intact. We are happy to announce that Cuphead will be coming to Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam in mid-2017.

We are constantly humbled by your continued support. Love you all and can’t wait to get this to you. Without further ado, we will get back to work!

This marks the second major delay in the game's development; it was previously scheduled to release in 2015.

Our Take
Studio MDHR is clearly uninterested in compromising its vision for Cuphead, and that's an admirable quality. But the more the game slips, the more expensive the development gets. We hope the delay proves to be worth it.
