[Update] Bandai Namco Officially Announces Upcoming Power Rangers Game

by Ian Boudreau on Oct 06, 2016 at 12:37 PM

Update (Thursday, August 6 at 5:37 p.m. Central): Upon hearing back from Bandai Namco, we've received confirmation that Saban's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle is officially in the works. It will release in January 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The beat-em-up game will feature local co-op, and include levels inspired by episodes from the TV show Saban's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Original Story:

It seems a new Power Rangers game is coming in January.

According to GameSpot, Bandai Namco brought a demo of the game called Power Rangers: Mega Battle to their booth at the New York Comic-Con, where they're letting players try the game hands-on. Power Rangers fan site PowerRangersNow shared a brief gameplay clip, apparently captured on a mobile phone.

The clip shows an arcade beat-em-up style game with a clean, 2D animation art style. According to signage in the video, the game is set for release in January for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam. We've reached out to Bandai Namco for confirmation, and will update this article should we hear back.

Our Take
It's a bit strange that Bandai Namco hasn't actually announced this game through official channels, but the classic jump-in co-op is a nice throwback to Streets of Rage and the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade games, so this is worth keeping an eye on.
