The Elder Scrolls: Legends is currently in an open beta on PC, giving players a chance to check out the collectible card game in advance of its release later this year. In the meantime, players can spend cash on the free-to-play game, including on a newly released starter pack that seems like a decent deal for those who are willing to pay.

For $4.99, players can buy the starter pack. It includes 10 packs of cards, which are usually priced at $2.99 for a pair of packs or $7.99 for seven packs. The bundle contains one guaranteed legendary card, as well as the exclusive in-game player title The Founder and a trio of exclusive alternative-art cards. Before you get too many crazy ideas, starter packs are limited to one per account.

The Elder Scrolls: Legends is set for a release on PC, Mac, and iOS and Android tablets this year, with iOS and Android phone versions in development as well. For more information on the game, take a look at Dan Tack's hands-on impressions.

Our Take
While I'm never thrilled with the prospect of throwing cash at games, this looks like a decent-enough value – if you consider the price of the digital cards to be reasonable in the first place. I may be old-school, but the idea of spending money on a beta makes me a little squeamish, though.
