CD Projekt Says Cyberpunk 2077 Team Larger Than Witcher 3's At Its Peak

by Jeff Cork on Sep 06, 2016 at 04:14 AM

CD Projekt has been deeply involved in its Witcher series over the past few years, with the third entry and its various expansions as well as an upcoming standalone title based on its popular in-universe game, Gwent. The company revealed several years ago that its next big project would be a game based on a pen-and-paper RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. Since then, the company has kept pretty quiet about it. That hasn't changed much, but CD Projekt did drop an interesting tidbit about the size of the team that's working on the new game, in a post on an investor forum.

The are currently more developers working on Cyberpunk 2077 than were working on The Witcher 3 during its most intensive period. That came via a forum post on the company's site, where investors can ask questions, which was translated by a NeoGAF user. Beyond that, they remain tight-lipped about the game. When asked about when it would be released, they only responded by saying that they like to surprise.

Our Take
Team size and overall game quality isn't necessarily a guaranteed relationship, as anyone whose sat through 15 minutes of credits for a ho-hum release knows. This is a good sign for Cyberpunk 2077, with the company directing so many resources toward it. CD Projekt set a high bar with The Witcher 3, and people are only going to expect more and more from the company as we move forward.
