Axiom Verge Finally Hits The Wii U In September

by AJ Moser on Aug 15, 2016 at 08:20 AM

Developer Thomas Happ's Metroid-inspired indie game Axiom Verge finally has a Wii U release date. The game lands on Nintendo's home console on September 1.

In a lengthy blog post, Happ detailed the long struggle to get the game to Wii U, the platform he feels has always been the game's home. He explained the game's distinct Nintendo influences as well as why the Wii U version is the one to play if you haven't yet experienced Axiom Verge:

Even though the game’s been out for a little while on other systems, the Wii U version is probably the best one. It’s the only console version to support leaderboards for the dedicated Speedrun Mode. And the Wii U GamePad will allow people to have the world map viewable at all times without pausing the game – or to play Off-TV.

The game made its way to PlayStation Vita earlier this year, and is available on PlayStation 4 and PC as well. For more on Axiom Verge, check out our glowing review from its initial release.

Our Take:
The development process for Axiom Verge was tough for Thomas Happ, as detailed here and here. However, the game turned out very well. Everything about Axiom Verge has always been appealing to me, but I never picked it up. I will be grabbing the Wii U version, as Happ himself says it is the best.
