GoldenEye: 007 Multiplayer Fan Remake Receives First Update In Three Years

by Suriel Vazquez on Aug 14, 2016 at 11:34 AM

GoldenEye: Source, a fan-made multiplayer remake of the Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye: 007 using Valve's Source engine, has been updated for the first time in three years, to version 5.0.

The game reskins the original game's maps with new textures, reworks the feel of some of the weapons, and offers several multiplayer modes. The 5.0 update includes several two new maps (Bunker and Caverns), adds the Grenade Launcher, and allows players to take on the role of Russian Soldiers and Infantry. The single-player portion of the original game is not included in the mod and the team currently has no plans to remake it.

In addition to updating the game itself, the team behind the mod will begin hosting community events to help keep the playerbase afloat, as well as offering regular players incentives to continue playing. For example, anyone who plays the game before August 31 will receive the Ivory DD44 skin for the pistol.

The team has also released a trailer for the new update, which you can find below. You can download the mod here.

Our Take
I played GoldenEye: Source a few years ago and found that it was a great remake and decent shooter. It didn't hold my attention for long, but seeing that the team behind the mod will be rolling out community events sounds like a cool idea.
