Travis "Samox" Beauchamp, director of the documentary The Smash Brothers, has premiered a six-minute excerpt of his follow-up film, Metagame, at this year's Super Smash Con.

The excerpt breaks down a 2008 Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament, Pound 3, through the story of its most prominent player, Joseph "Mango" Marquez. It builds a short story through interviews with people who were at the event commenting on what the atmosphere of the tournament was like at the time and contrasting it with more recent footage of Marquez facing off against top players in a more recent tournament.

The full film is expected to release later this year. You can watch the excerpt below.

Our Take
The Smash Brothers was one of the most comprehensive, most riveting documentaries about competitive gaming I've seen, and I'm not even a big Smash Bros. player. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing Beauchamp take a crack at a more modern tournaments and narratives with the same approach.
