by Elise Favis on Jul 24, 2016 at 10:30 AM

The movie tie-in to Final Fantasy XV, titled Kingsglaive, received a new trailer at San Diego Comic-Con. While the movie has already hit in Japan, its release in North America isn't until August.

According to director Takeshi Nozue via the PlayStation Blog, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV "stands on its own and can be enjoyed without knowledge of the previous games." However, for those that are Final Fantasy fans, they will be treated to several references that others may not understand. Kingsglaive has an impressive cast, including Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), and Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones). The film will feature both new and cross-over characters from the game.

The movie will depict the events leading up to the game's main story, namely King Regis fighting the Empire. "Along with Final Fantasy XV, the main theme portrayed in Kingsglaive is the bond between father and son," writes Nozue. "While watching the film you’ll see the love they have for each other and understand the pressures of fulfilling the responsibility of being King."

Kingsglaive will release in select theaters on August 19, and will hit Blu-ray and DVD on October 4. Take a look at some gorgeous screens from the movie here.

As for the game, Final Fantasy XV launches on September 30 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Check out our hub or click below to learn more.
