Brace For Server Impact: Pokémon Go Out Now In Japan

by Mike Futter on Jul 21, 2016 at 04:03 PM

Japan has now joined the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and a number of countries in Europe in the thrall of Pokémon. The quest to be the very best is on.

Multiple sources, including analysts David Gibson and Dr. Serkan Toto, have indicated that Pokémon Go is now available in Japan. The country has been prepping its residents with safety warnings in advance of the game’s release.

We’ve had our share of misfortunes in the West. Now we get to see if our friends in Japan can top our self-inflicted calamities.

Even if you don’t play Pokémon Go, you can still bathe in the schadenfreude of the stories we’ve collected. Just be safe out there, trainers. It’s probably just a pidgey.

Our Take
I’m looking forward to the entire world getting online and us getting out of this launch period. I’m delighted with Pokémon Go, even if the experience is both thin and unreliable.

I love discovering new Pokémon, but if I miss one more rare because the app crashes… I’ll probably just keep playing. Who am I kidding?
