Update: T-Mobile Offers Customers Free Pokémon Go Data Via T-Mobile Tuesdays App

by Mike Futter on Jul 18, 2016 at 12:20 PM

Update 7/18/2016: A T-Mobile representative has reached out to clarify that this offer is not automatically applied, and must be activated.

"This deal is not automatically applied to all T-Mobile customers - they must claim the deal via the T-Mobile Tuesdays app in order to get the data. In order to avoid confusion, we want to be explicitly clear that people need to claim the offer versus having it automatically applied to their account."

Original story:

There are two things you can never have enough of when playing Pokémon Go. No, we aren’t talking about Pokéballs, which you can get pretty much everywhere.

If you’ve been playing Niantic and The Pokémon Company’s cultural phenomenon you’ve likely seen your battery crushed by the app. We suggest an external battery. The other thing you need to worry about: mobile broadband data.

T-Mobile has decided to lure customers over with a new offer. The company is adding Pokémon Go to its list of apps that won’t eat into your monthly data allotment for a full year.

Next Tuesday, July 19, the mobile provider is also giving away free Lyft rides of up to $15 to get you to a Pokéstop or Gym. You can also get free Frosty desserts from Wendy’s and 50 percent off on accessories (like those external batteries we mentioned).

The company is also giving away $100 in Pokécoins to 250 customers. Another five will will win a Pokémon Go hunting trip for two to anywhere in the United States.

Our Take
We’ve seen a lot of companies trying to hitch their wagons to Pokémon Go. This is one of the best, as it has a direct impact on how people play.
