Lucasfilm Is Working On A Darth Vader Virtual Reality Movie

by Blake Hester on Jul 18, 2016 at 11:05 AM

Lucasfilm is working on a virtual reality movie based around Darth Vader with one of the writers of The Dark Knight and Man Of Steel, David S. Goyer.

Announced during a panel at this year's Star Wars Celebration [via The Verge], the film is a collaboration between Goyer and Industrial Light & Magic's interactive entertainment branch. According to creative executive Pablo Hidalgo, the film will be series cannon.

"You are the visitor in this story that is happening in and around you, and to a certain extent you might even have some effect on [the film's story]," Goyer explained to a panel during the event. "You can pick up things, you can open things. You can push things, you can walk. You can touch characters."

Not much information was given about the new film, aside from its existence and it starring Darth Vader, but some additional comments from Goyer may indicate that it's right around the corner. "I'm really, really excited for a year or two [from now] — whenever it happens — and you guys get to experience what we're working on," he said.

This is one of a few different virtual reality projects based in the Star Wars universe. Trials Of Tatooine releases today and a Star Wars: Battlefront X-Wing mission was announced for PlayStation VR at this year's E3.
