Blizzard Hints Again At Upcoming Overwatch Characters

by Haley MacLean on Jul 12, 2016 at 08:56 AM

Today Overwatch's newest character Ana, support sniper and mother to Pharah, got an origins trailer and gameplay footage showing off her moves and weapons. Within the origins trailer as Ana explains why she left Overwatch and reminisces on old friends, an image filled with familiar Overwatch faces is shown. However, it seems to include a couple brand new faces as well.

Within the image we can clearly see Ana hugging young Pharah, as well as Solider 76, Torbjörn, Mercy,  McCree, Reinhardt, and Reaper. However, the remaining two characters are seemingly unfamiliar and are the last to appear in the image. This could mean Blizzard is teasing a couple of future characters that were a part of the original Overwatch team.

Looking back at Blizzard's Recall animated short, as Winston sent out the call to all past Overwatch members, numerous unknown characters shot across the screen too fast to properly take a look. However, if you slow it down you can see 15 unknown agents among the 21 confirmed Overwatch characters. Two of which have striking similarities with the new characters in Ana's origins trailer.

The character on the left has a similar square jawline and dark spikey-styled hair as the man in Ana's origins trailer, with his eyes covered up by a device similar to Widowmaker's sniping gear. The woman on the right bears similarities as well, the only difference being a lighter and slightly more curly hairstyle.

Perhaps the woman is Amélie before she was transformed into the blue-skinned Windowmaker, or the man is another current Overwatch character that is more muscled and unrecognizable in his youth. Either way,  Blizzard seems to love to keep its audience guessing, and Ana's new origins trailer is keeping up with that theme. It is uncertain whether these new characters are the same shown in the Recall animated short, but hopefully more clues will be uncovered in whatever Blizzard releases next.
