Update: Nintendo has confirmed that vice president of sales and marketing Scott Moffitt will be departing the company. The publisher also explains how it will be handling the responsibilities moving forward.

“Scott Moffitt, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, has decided to leave Nintendo of America," a company representative told us via email. "In order to ensure a smooth transition, Scott will continue to work through the end of July. Nintendo has a strong group of seasoned leaders in place who will step in to assume the full responsibilities of the role on a permanent basis, with the objective of driving more collaboration and greater efficiencies across these groups and among the respective leaders. We thank Scott for his years of service and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Original Story:

A report indicates that Nintendo is shaking up its leadership here in North America. Vice president of sales and marketing Scott Moffitt is said to be leaving the company later this summer.

IGN reports that Moffitt, who has been with the company since May 2011, is leaving under “amicable” circumstances. Prior to joining Nintendo, Moffitt was the senior vice president for Henkel of America’s personal care division. He also spent time running the SoBe beverage line for Pepsi.

We’ve reached out to Nintendo for comment and confirmation. We’ll update should we receive a response.

Our Take
Until and unless Nintendo comments, we won’t know if Moffitt is leaving for another opportunity or if he’s a part of a planned organizational change. If his position is being eliminated, it points to a reassignment of duties in the organization that may be localized or widespread. We don’t know nearly enough to speculate.
