Respawn Won't Charge For Titanfall 2 Maps And Modes DLC

by Mike Futter on Jun 13, 2016 at 04:49 AM

Respawn's Titanfall is the latest franchise to abandon the long-time practice of splitting the player base with paid map add-ons. The news comes from EA Play's London event and directly from the developer.

The information was delivered by Respawn head of development David Wightman. With Titanfall 2 due out in a crowded field, including Call of Duty and the EA-published Battlefield 1 on either side, this is a competitive advantage over both offerings.

"We'll definitely be supporting Titanfall 2 post-launch, and I can confirm all maps and modes we deliver post-launch will be free," Wightman said. "We'll be talking more about post-launch plans closer to release so stay tuned for more info."

This isn't to say that Titanfall 2 won't have paid DLC, of course. We've seen developers get creative with paid cosmetics and other mechanisms like Halo 5's REQ packs. We'll have more on Titanfall 2 during E3.
