Ghost Recon: Wildlands Gets March 2017 Release Date And New Gameplay Footage

by Brian Shea on Jun 13, 2016 at 10:43 AM

Last year, Ghost Recon: Wildlands was one of the highlights of Ubisoft's E3 presentation, and this year we not only got a release date, but also a new gameplay demonstration. Ghost Recon: Wildlands is set to hit PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 17.

The premise of Ghost Recon: Wildlands is that the Mexican drug cartel has taken over Bolivia to become the number one cocaine producer in the planet, effectively turning Bolivia into a narco-state. The elite spec-ops Ghosts must drop behind enemy lines to create chaos and disrupt the cartel. Dominic Butler, lead game designer of Ubisoft Paris, claims this as the latest action-adventure open world that Ubisoft has ever created. In this world, you're able to play solo or co-op with up to four players.

In the new gameplay demo that Ubisoft debuted during its E3 press conference, the team of two Ghosts were looking for a tactical extraction of an enemy target. One Ghost is on the ground while the other is watching from afar. The Ghost stealthily takes out enemies as he works towards the intel. He acquires the intel and the other picks him up with a chopper as they begin moving toward the target.

Two more players drop in and start moving in with the other players from west of the compound. The other two land from the distance and begin marking and sniping targets, and the two new additions move in and quietly work through the compound, taking out snipers and ground guards along the way. One deploys a drone to scope out the base, marking guards and identifying the target inside of a building.

As the Ghosts move to the target, they're spotted and the target flees in an SUV. Guards descend on the base as the Ghosts hop in vehicles and give chase. While three of the Ghosts follow the target, the other rides a motorcycle to a chopper. Two Ghosts are in an SUV, ramming and firing rounds into the targets' SUV, while the other keeps up in the motorcycle. As they drive alongside it, the entire base explodes. The Ghosts' SUV finally rams the target's vehicle out of commission as they secure the target. The chopper arrives just in time, as the cartel descends on the three outgunned Ghosts.

The Ghosts hop into the chopper with the target alive and fly away to complete the mission.
