Weekend Warrior – Ramping Up To E3

by Haley MacLean on Jun 10, 2016 at 02:00 PM

With E3 right around the corner, the Game Informer team will be split into two groups: those who venture to the mystical land of Los Angeles, and the home team sticking in Minnesota to hold down the fort. There is still a bit of time to squeeze in some games before things get too hectic, and here’s what we’ll be doing before being consumed with conferences. We would love to know your pre-E3 plans, let us know in the comments!

Kimberley Wallace (@kstar1785) – This weekend I’m prepping for the E3 storm by getting my beauty rest. I can’t wait for the surprise announcements, even if we’ve already had our share of leaks. There has got to be something I don’t know about. Let it be a cool RPG, please! I’ve been pretty addicted to Overwatch, so I’ll try to get a few matches in before my life revolves around E3.

Kyle Hilliard (@KyleMHilliard) – This weekend is basically the calm before the E3 storm, and this year we only get one day as everything really takes off on Sunday afternoon. I am not attending the show in Los Angeles this year (I will be helping to cover it remotely), but it doesn’t make it any less imposing. When I am not wavering between E3 excitement and sighing loudly in expectation of the looming work load, I will be seeing the Red Sox play the Twins with my parents and sister, trying to finish up Uncharted 4, and maybe getting in a few rounds of Overwatch here and there. Oh, I also need to go ahead and buy Finding Dory tickets. Make sure to remind me on twitter so I don’t forget. This has now become your task. I will probably forget with all the E3 insanity.

Dan Tack (@dantack) – This weekend is a momentous occasion, as we have E3 upon us. I will be heading to my gaming parlour and partaking in some Overwatch. To accompany the Overwatch, I will be dining on lobster in many different styles and flavors… Lobster nachos with some swiss aioli and fresh guacamole (spicy, table-side), and a full on lobster boil with all the accoutrements, side of griddled bread, sausage, and coastal slaw. I’ll have a table set up so I can enjoy the nachos between games, with my mini-fridge keeping other accompanying essentials ice cold, because you absolutely must have the fixings around – sour cream, cream cheese, stone ground coarse mustard, etc. There will also be a homemade lobster bisque involved at some point. As always, it’s standard to pair lobster with Chardonnay (I traditionally enjoy a Sicilian Chardonnay with my lobster), but I feel like the pairing is rather gauche at this point, so I’ll be enjoying it with some other palate cleansers, perhaps an iced ginger ale. Overwatch is going to be great this weekend!!!

Jeff Marchiafava (@GIJeffM) – This weekend I’ll be playing the real-life version of Papers, Please as I brave the TSA lines at the airport to head out to E3. Any actual gaming will be done on my phone, though I’ll probably spend the majority of my transit time reading a book or taking a nap. It’s like playing a game in your IMAGINATION.

Ben Hanson (@yozetty) – This weekend I'm going to cram in some games before flying out to E3. Tonight is dedicated to finishing my play through of Crash 2 for the fourth time or so with friends, that game gets silly and hard by the end. Other than that, I'm sure I'll be sucked in by the gravitational pull of Overwatch a bit more. Have a good weekend, happy E3!

Jeff Cork (@gijeff) – I’ll be on a plane Saturday, and then in a hotel and our booth on Sunday. I’m sure I’ll be able to sneak in a few Clash Royale matches here and there, but I’m going to be too busy writing about games to play them for the most part. Life is hard, guys.

Haley MacLean (@haleyfaxer) – This weekend I plan to play a little Overwatch, Blood and Wine, and maybe even try out a bit of the new GTA Online dlc. I’m super pumped for E3 and can’t wait to see what’s released. Just saying, if Red Dead 2 is announced, I might be MIA for a few days to deal with the unbridled childlike enthusiasm that would consume me. Besides that, I’m ready to see whatever is in store for the coming year!

AJ Moser (@AndMoser) – As is customary before E3, my weekend shall be consumed in a maelstrom of hoping and dreaming. It begins Friday evening, just at midnight, when I arrange my amiibo in a pentagram on the floor as to appease Eiji Aonuma and Shigeru Miyamoto. Then I shall begin the 24 hour-long chants of "Please let Zelda Wii U be great" for the third year in a row. I will break my fast Sunday morning and begin work on fashioning a hype shelter out of various blankets and pillows. Oh yeah, and if I manage to get some free time I'll probably dive back into The Witcher 3 for the Blood and Wine expansion. A pretty relaxing weekend for me.

Mike Futter (@futterish) – With E3 here, I’ll be switching over to handheld gaming for my travels. I just picked up Final Fantasy Explorers, and I’m currently also playing Hyrule Warriors Legends and Monster Hunter 4. Mostly I just like hacking things to death. In games. I mean in games.

Blake Hester –  After almost a year of telling myself I'd go back to it, I finally restarted The Witcher III this week. And guys, have you heard of this game? It is insanely good. I think this CD Projekt Red is onto something with this Gerry Rivers. So yeah, I plan on playing that a lot.

Leo Vader (@leovader) – The new GTA Online update is so good that I almost believe I'll spend one second playing it instead of Overwatch this weekend. Actually I don't believe that at all. Overwatch Overwatch. Overwatch? Overwatch! #Overwatch
