HTC has announced that its Vive virtual-reality headset can now be purchased via the product's website (vive.com) for shipping within 72 hours, cutting out the pre-order wait.

Back at launch in April, there was a wait for the system depending on when you put your pre-order in.

If you want to try the Vive, you can also now do so in more locations than ever around North America. HTC says it's doubling and then some its retail demo locations at places such as the Microsoft Store, GameStop (Full disclosure: GameStop is the parent company of Game Informer), and Micro Center.

Our Take
It's great that HTC and Valve can now fight their battle on both the direct sales and retail presence front. Which brings up the question: Is it better to fully satisfy the early adopter by putting a priority on pre-order fulfillment first or try and appeal to the masses with a retail presence in stores?
