Blizzard: Overwatch Has More Than 7 Million Players

by Mike Futter on Jun 02, 2016 at 11:00 AM

Overwatch is off to a fast start, according to Blizzard. The game, which launched last week, has amassed 7 million players already.

This compares to the open beta, which drew 9.5 million players. During the opening 10 days, players were in-game for 119 million hours. That averages out to 17 hours per player (though we’re confident that the range is fairly wide).

You can read more about Overwatch in our review. And if you’re curious about our favorite characters, you can check that out here.

Our Take
Players and copies sold are two different things. It’s likely that the gap between those numbers isn’t terribly large given the buzz around the game. With that many players though, we suspect Blizzard is raking in money with loot box sales.
