Dambuster Promises To Fix Homefront: The Revolution’s Problems

by Mike Futter on May 20, 2016 at 04:26 AM

While we haven’t finished putting Homefront: The Revolution through its paces, our early impressions aren’t terribly flattering. Developer Dambuster (owned by publisher Deep Silver) has acknowledged the game’s glaring problems.

In his look at the cooperative Resistance mode, Jeff Cork had some less than positive things to say about the game’s performance. “Even after installing the latest update, Homefront: The Revolution runs poorly on the PlayStation 4,” he writes. “The framerate sputters around, occasionally hitting around 30 FPS, but dipping regularly. It makes the shooting, which already feels mushy and unfulfilling, virtually unplayable at times.”

Dambuster agrees with Cork about the frame rate. In a post on the official forums from community manager Craig Turner, the company lays out the way forward.

“It has been a long road for us, and we're only getting started,” Turner writes. “But we're also aware that performance - particularly frame rate - is not currently where we want it to be, and we are working on additional patches to help address these issues and more.”

For those who are playing, eight pieces of gear have been made available. These make up the punk and anarchist outfits. Dambuster will also be releasing three more Resistance missions before the end of June, with additional content to come after.

Our full review will be coming next week.

Our Take
Cork’s takeaways aren’t particularly hope-inspiring. Perhaps the game fares a bit better on a high-end PC. But frame rate only seems to be one of the issues, as Jeff details. These might be fixable with patches and updates, but whether Deep Silver is willing to pour money into repairing the game is a big question mark.
