No Trials Of Osiris In Destiny This Weekend As Bungie Tackles Unlimited Rockets Bug

by Jeff Marchiafava on May 19, 2016 at 01:40 PM

Destiny has announced that it has canceled this weekend's Trials of Osiris PvP event due to a bug that allows players to spawn unlimited rockets. Yikes.

The announcement comes from Bungie's weekly blog post outlining what the team has been working on, and this week has apparently been a doozy. For obvious reasons, in its post Bungie doesn't say how the exploit works, but humorously describes the result as "a Rocket Launcher that works like a clown car," and it appears to be affecting both PvE and PvP. Descriptions have surfaced elsewhere online regarding the specific weapons and perks that can lead to the exploit.

The bug would be especially detrimental for Trials of Osiris: Players must buy into the event using glimmer, and then try to rack up nine wins before suffering three losses. Suffice it to say, having unlimited rockets would be a significant advantage, and not fun for honest players on the opposing team.

Bungie says Iron Banner will also be placed on hold due to the glitch, though that Crucible event wouldn't take place until later in the month anyway; hopefully, the developer can figure out and fix bug before then.

Our Take
Given Destiny's massive and ever-expanding scope, it's not a surprising to see rare weapon combinations produce unexpected results. We're not sure how prevalent the glitch is at this point, but it's obviously a big problem for PvP. Bungie sounds like it has already identified the problem, so hopefully a patch is coming soon. In the meantime, however, you might what to stick to playing PvE content with your friends, or accept the likelihood that some players in PvP may be exploiting the bug.
