Take-Two Has Shipped 65 Million Copies Of Grand Theft Auto V

by Mike Futter on May 18, 2016 at 11:09 AM

Grand Theft Auto V continues to sell at an impressive clip. Take-Two says that it has sold 5 million units in its fourth quarter of the fiscal year.

In February, the publisher reported that it had shipped 60 million copies. That number is now 65 million.

Also mentioned during the call is that Grand Theft Auto Online continues to bring in revenue at a better-than-expected rate. Take-Two has anticipated GTA Online revenue would taper off, but it continues (along with other in-app and currency purchases) at a solid rate.

As for what’s next for Rockstar, Take-Two isn’t revealing yet. They do suggest that we won’t have long to wait for news, though. You can read more about Take-Two’s performance and its biggest titles in our previous coverage.

Our Take
For better or worse, Take-Two continues to be bound to Rockstar’s success. There are certainly other titles in the portfolio (and NBA 2K is nothing to shrug at), but it’s been two and a half years since GTA V arrived on last-gen consoles. Selling another 5 million in the most recent quarter are sales that some titles won’t do in a lifetime.
