Xbox One Backward Compatibility Can Now Accommodate Multi-Disc Games
You might recall back when Xbox One backward compatibility was announced that there was a caveat. The Microsoft engineering team was having some trouble getting multi-disc games to play nicely.
There’s been progress in that area, and those titles are now eligible for backward compatibility support. That means that Mass Effect 2 and 3, LA Noire, Max Payne 3, Lost Odyssey, and more can now be added to the library.
“I can confirm that the BC team has done work to support multi disc scenarios,” wrote Xbox spokesperson Larry Hryb on Reddit. “Be sure to thank the BC engineers.”
The first game supported under the updated technology is this week’s release of Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut. This also has impact on the monthly Games with Gold offerings, as all Xbox 360 games need to be available via backward compatibility on Xbox One.
Our Take
This is news I’ve been waiting for. There are some multi-disc games I missed last generation that I hope to revisit on Xbox One via this program.
