This War Of Mine Becomes A Tabletop Game Via Kickstarter

by Mike Futter on May 10, 2016 at 05:24 AM

When This War of Mine was first announced, it caught our attention because of its different perspective on war. Instead of focusing on soldiers, 11-bit's survival game focuses on a band of refugees scraping by in a war-torn setting. Our adoration continued through the game’s release on PC late in 2014.

The resource scarcity aspects of keeping your survivors fed, clothed, and healthy have clear connections to worker management board games like Agricola. You only have so much time available and never enough materials to do everything you want.

We’ve known that This War of Mine was coming to tabletops since November, but today we get our first look at it and hear from creator Michał Orascz, who is also the designer behind Neuroshima Hex (available as a physical game or digitally on mobile devices).

At the time of publication, the project has raised more than 70 percent of its £40,000 ($57,681) goal. Project manager Awaken Realms specializes in miniatures, which comes through in the character sculpts shown on the campaign page.

Backing the game at the base level, which includes the game and any stretch goals unlocked costs £50 ($72) plus shipping. Higher tiers offer an art book, additional collectibles, resin miniatures (instead of plastic), and more.

You can check out the campaign for more information.

Update: The campaign has now surpassed its goal.
